Lockdown Report # 9

Its Wednesday 1st April 2020…..and unfortunately it is not an April Fools Day…we are still in Lockdown.

Settling into a routine now…treating as normal work day so up 6ish…..watch some of the news channels….avoid getting to depressed. Anita gets ready for work  and I send her on her way with a coffee….she manages a retirement village near by so not far to go. I then log in and work till 11.30ish and walk mutts for an hour. Have lunch…do some troopie stuff, do some more work and organise dinner. Consume Dinner…more troopie stuff…play cards with Anita and daughter in Lockdown with us and bed at 10.30.

I haven’t quite finished the next 3 Roman legionnaire units, should be next day or so but Russ has sent through an update.

More photos of what I’ve been working on.

I’ve rebased eight skirmishers as pairs on to four square bases and repainted them a bit as Legere. Also painted a Legere command base.
All are mounted in a new skirmisher movement tray.
I envisage the skirmisher tray working like this. Three spread out bases with a base width between and using the skirmisher bases to fill the gaps. Colour stand in the rear about 6” back.
The other option is to have five stands of paired skirmishers. It would look good but I’d struggle to have enough skirmisher pairs for multiple units in skirmish order.
Close up shot of the new Legere command stand. The front row and cornet player in the back are Warlord Games metals.
Might shoot some photos in daylight.

And the last thing today is a link to the Kerry Thomas blog where he is highlighting his Polish and Russian forces that he is to bring to the Borodino refight when we have it. Kerry is to play the role of Prince Poniatowski when we have the game. I had the pleasure of Kerry playing beside me at the Leipzig battle a few years a go and he is a wonderful chap and this is a very beautifully painted army.
Enjoy.

Lockdown Report # 8

Monday 30th March 2020

Russ has sent through a lovely update.

Got several Napoleonic painting projects under way but this one is finished.
I have two spare artillery pieces. I was going to create an additional battery but instead looking to add one to a limber.
Here’s the output.
The wheels are fixed and the gun pivots on its axles so can be lowered perhaps to occupy a bastion at some point.

Lockdown Report # 7

An update from Alan.

Due to work commitments and the with my father passing earlier in the month I was very remiss in not planning ahead and ordering the figures I need to complete some projects.
End result could well be I (hopefully) will get everything I currently have on the ‘to paint list’ completed in the next 3 – 4 weeks.
The Gaelic Division for my Carthaginian Army is now complete (pic 1).  I have a 1 unit of heavy spearmen,  2 units of Samnites, some light troops plus some Nubian Cav figures to paint (pic 2) and then that’s it till mail order starts again. But with the rest of my Carthaginians and Spanish there should be a sufficient force to halt the blight which is the spread of Rome (have to learn the rules first though).

Pic 1

Pic 2

I was going to complete some Westphalian units (since Borodino delayed) but could only score at the very last minute one box of the new Perry French  (will need to purchase 3 more when the bugs have gone) … but do have one Westphalian light Regt under way (pic 3).

Pic 3

Additionally I have been painting up some Black Seas ships, which were are nice change from 28mm figs, but have only one French 1st rate and small merchant vessel left to complete that collection (pic 4 &5)

Pic 4

Pic 5

Finally …. as a last resort if lockdown drags on, and the paints don’t run out, there is an unpainted 15mm Austrian SYW army in the cupboard gathering dust.
Stay safe.
Footnote: Terry here… I have offered Alan some more Victrix Samnites to paint …the 15mm figures are happy gathering dust….they truely are…honest Alan…reallllllly happy…...

Lockdown Report # 6

Good morning, its Sunday 29th March. I needed reminding.

Tis a beautiful morning to be in a lockdown, gale force southerly and rain….been this way for a day or more.

Delightful.

View from lounge below, Even the dogs don’t want to go out.

Fortunately while I had a solid 9 hour sleep, result of eating to much lasagne followed by a wee dramm, Anita got up and put the fire on… love that woman.

Lounge nice and snug ready for me to start painting after coffee. Bless her.

Today’s update has Rob’s French cavalry as he has kindly sent me some pictures. As mentioned in earlier report Rob is Murat when we eventually refight Borodino.

Enjoy.

Lockdown Report # 4

Terrain Maker extraordinaire Paul Weakley has supplied some pictures of his Russian forces arrayed around the Bagration Fleches. The terrain boards Paul made for the Borodino game make a table 24 foot long and 6 foot wide. This is but a small section of the battlefield.

Watch and weep you Frenchies…. we are ready for you!

Note the darker green/brown areas are actually woods…just trees not in their wee sockets at moment.

And below have focussed on the fleches. There were 3 but we are not using the smaller centre one.The fleches are made from the resin pieces I purchased from http://www.paulsmodellingworkshop.com/

The guns and gunners in fleches are mine…..the rest of the Russian masses are all Paul’s. The figures are carrying powder bags from the Perry ammo wagons I am completing.

Lockdown Report # 3

And John has reported in from Auckland.

Apart from playing as Napoleon and running the French players for the Borodino game, John was supplying a sizeable Russian contribution. John has been working at rebasing them and below is a photo of his Russians undergoing rebase/repaint/tidy up and also Johns books.

We all love our books.

Lockdown Report # 2

So Rob has sent me some pictures of what he has been up to.

The Borodino Game that we were meant to be gaming this weekend naturally was postponed.

Rob is Murat for the game and has been adding units to his army.

Here are his latest efforts but I will ask him to send pictures of his cavalry for publishing.

Below are more Perry French commanders and in background Dutch Red Lancers on the painting table. I suspect the French side will be fielding a division of these guys at some stage.

French Guard hose artillery

French foot artillery

And to finish off a shot of Rob’s library. Every gamer needs one!

Lockdown Report # 1

So I have asked the ladz to send me updates of their efforts while locked at home in their bubbles.

I will kick it off with a my first project.

My ever expanding Roman Army. Apart from figures I have painted but not based, late last year I send 40 figures off to Fernando Enterprises. These were returned early March so will initially be working at adding some command figures, painting shields/adding decals and then basing them. Probably add 4 or 5 units before get bored and move onto Byzantines.

So here is unit Legionnaire unit # 12.

Figures are plastic Warlord Games plus command being metals from Foundry and mix of my painting and Fernando.

Lockdown

So as New Zealand moves into lockdown from midnight Wednesday….its time to check if I am prepared.

Books? Tick

Troops to paint? BIG TICK

Wood for fire? Tick.
